Chapter One: Silver Scars of Sunlight  Ada woke up shivering, the warmth sucked out of the room, and felt immediately awake. It was just about light outside- the gossamer curtains did nothing to keep out the day. She bent down to the foot of her bed and pulled a blanket over her shoulders before sliding her feet out of the bed. Prologue  Her father gave her a quick, whiskery kiss and tucked her in bed, pulling the covers right up to her shoulders, before hurrying to the other room to help her mother with the wailing baby. She could hear the screams die down slowly as she wriggled out of the duvet, flipping over onto her front and kicking the covers further down the bed. She hated sleeping with the duvet up to her neck, it was like being smothered.  She tossed and turned for a bit, unable to ignore the cries from downstairs, the frantic voices of her parents trying to sound soothing. She wondered if she had been this much trouble when she was a baby, or so loud.
